2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty Reviews Summary

Heavy-duty trucks are all about getting work done. They have the highest tow ratings of any non-commercial vehicles, and they have the features and tools for worksites and contractors. But a trend over the past decade is the increasing popularity of the “luxury truck.” Owners also use their trucks as commuter cars, family haulers, and road trip vehicles.

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is offered in a wide variety of trims to accommodate its equally wide variety of potential uses. For 2020, the F-350 gets a new 7.3-liter V8, expanded use of the new 10-speed automatic transmission, and a new off-road-inspired trim called the Tremor. But which Ford Super Duty is right for you?

2020 Ford Ranger Reviews Summary

Midsize pickup trucks are not designed for the worksite. They lack the size or capability for the rigors of commercial use. These smaller trucks are lifestyle vehicles, designed for hauling bikes and kayaks. They are more at home at the campsite than the worksite.

The 2020 Ford Ranger has decent fuel economy for a pickup truck, and the optional infotainment system is terrific. It also has the towing and hauling abilities for a boat trailer or a truckload of home improvement gear. But where does the 2020 Ford Ranger stack up against other midsize pickups? Read on to find out.

Look and feel

2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty

6/10

2020 Ford Ranger

7/10

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty had an updated styling with a more detailed grille and headlights. The new grille moved away from the gaudy chrome-clad bars of the 2019 model, but still maintained an imposing presence. The massive headlights were contoured for a more mature look. Despite these updates, the design was a modest evolution from the 2017 model year. The cabin remained unchanged with blocky styling, which was not particularly inviting compared to rivals like Ram. However, it was ideally suited for work use with plenty of usable space. Trim levels ranged from the basic XL with 17-inch steel wheels and vinyl seats to the luxurious Limited with power-retractable running boards and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

The 2020 Ford Ranger returned to the American lineup as a larger and more sophisticated truck than its predecessor. It featured a clean, somewhat aggressive appearance that conveyed its sporty, capable nature. Inside, the Ranger had a purposeful, function-first cabin with hard plastics that could take a bit of abuse. However, compared to other midsize pickups like the Jeep Gladiator and Honda Ridgeline, the Ranger’s cabin felt low-rent. Trim levels included the base XL with steel wheels and vinyl floors, the XLT with 17-inch aluminum wheels and dual-zone climate control, and the range-topping Lariat with 18-inch machined aluminum wheels and leather upholstery.

There was also a 6.7-liter turbodiesel Power Stroke V8 with 475 hp and an astounding 1,050 lb-ft of torque. New for 2020 was a 7.3-liter gas V8, putting out 430 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter V8 had a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 7.3-liter gas engine and the 6.7-liter diesel engine came with a 10-speed automatic. The F-350 had a conventional towing capacity of 24,200 pounds, a fifth-wheel towing capacity of 32,500 pounds, and a gooseneck trailer capacity of 37,000 pounds. It also had a maximum payload capacity of 7,850 pounds. The Tremor off-road package added 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, a lifted suspension, and graded off-road shocks and springs.

The 2020 Ford Ranger was equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission routed power to the rear wheels or available four-wheel drive with low-range gearing. The Ranger could tow up to 7,500 pounds and had a maximum payload capacity of 1,860 pounds. The FX2 and FX4 Off-Road packages added off-road tires, an electronically locking rear differential, and an off-road-tuned suspension. The FX4 package also included Trail Control and the Terrain Management System, which provided drive modes for various off-road conditions.

2020 Ford Ranger

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty was offered in Regular Cab, Super Cab, and Super Crew configurations. The Super Cab had rear-hinged half-doors, while the Super Crew had a full four-door crew cab with ample headroom and legroom. The F-350 was available with either a 6-foot-9-inch bed or an 8-foot bed. The regular cab came only with the longer bed, while the Super Cab and Super Crew were available with either bed length. The 8-foot bed was also available in a dual-rear-wheel configuration. The bed featured a step that extended from the end of the tailgate for easier loading.

The 2020 Ford Ranger was available in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations. The SuperCab seated four with rear-opening clamshell half-doors, while the SuperCrew had seating for five with a full rear bench. The SuperCab paired with a six-foot bed, and the SuperCrew with a five-foot bed. The Ranger offered a remote locking tailgate, LED bed lighting, and a wall-style power outlet. However, it did not offer a bed-step like the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. The Ranger’s interior featured deep in-door pockets, bottle holders, and a helpful coin/key tray atop the dash.

SYNC 3 had an intuitive menu layout with large icons for Audio, Phone, Navigation, Apps, and Settings. However, it occasionally experienced buggy hiccups, especially when switching between SYNC 3 and Apple CarPlay. The F-350 also offered Pro Trailer Backup Assist with a 360 camera, wide-angle backup camera, and Trailer Reverse Guidance, which made backing up a trailer easier by taking over the steering inputs.

The 2020 Ford Ranger XL had a basic AM/FM stereo with four speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. It also included FordPass Connect, which allowed for remote locking, unlocking, and starting of the Ranger, as well as WiFi hotspot capability. The XLT trim added SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Lariat trim included a standard B&O sound system by Bang & Olufsen with ten speakers.
