2022 RAM 1500 Reviews Summary

In 2021, the Ram pickup line overtook the Chevrolet Silverado as the second-best-selling truck in America. That’s the headline. The nuance is that sales figures include the previous-generation version, now sold as the Ram 1500 Classic, which remains in production four years after its should have died. Also, General Motors suffered significant production disruptions due to the ongoing chip shortage. Nevertheless, and especially in light of the redesigned Toyota Tundra arriving in the market, we thought it would be good to revisit the most popular of the Ram trucks, the 2022 Ram 1500.

2023 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

This year, Ford expands the F-150 lineup yet again. The big news is the debut of the F-150 Raptor R, equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine making 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The new 2023 F-150 Raptor R also has exclusive R-tuned Fox live-valve shocks, standard 37-inch all-terrain tires, and a few other goodies to justify its six-figure price tag.

The other new version of the 2023 Ford F-150 is more accessible: the XLT Heritage Edition. It has two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive 75 Years interior details. That’s the subject of this review.

2023 Ford F-150
10/10
In 2021, the Ram pickup line surpassed the Chevrolet Silverado to become the second-best-selling truck in America, thanks in part to the enduring popularity of the Ram 1500 Classic and despite GM's production disruptions due to a chip shortage. With the 2022 Ram 1500, Ram continues to capitalize on this momentum, offering a blend of performance, luxury, and technology that appeals to a wide range of buyers. The 2023 Ford F-150, meanwhile, adds to its lineup with the debut of the high-powered F-150 Raptor R and the more accessible XLT Heritage Edition. Ford's flagship truck aims to maintain its top spot in the market with a combination of power, versatility, and innovation.
Performance
2022 RAM 1500
9/10
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
The 2022 Ram 1500's performance is rated 9 out of 10, with a range of engine options including the EcoDiesel V6, which offers impressive towing capacity and fuel economy. The Ram's ride quality is exceptional, thanks to its coil-spring rear suspension and optional air suspension system. The 2023 Ford F-150 scores an 8 out of 10 in performance, with its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering strong acceleration and towing capabilities. However, its ride quality isn't as refined as the Ram's, although it provides solid handling and braking performance.
Form and function
2022 RAM 1500
9/10
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
In terms of form and function, both trucks are designed with practicality and convenience in mind, though they approach these goals differently. The 2022 Ram 1500 emphasizes luxury alongside functionality, offering features like power-deploying running boards for easier access. This is particularly useful given its various height settings provided by the air suspension, making it a blend of convenience and comfort, especially in higher trims like the Limited. The Ram 1500 Limited not only offers heated and ventilated seats for all passengers but also boasts a multi-function tailgate and the option for additional RamBox storage, enhancing both utility and passenger comfort. The 2023 Ford F-150 focuses on versatility and utility, demonstrated by its wide range of configurations that cater to different needs and budgets. From the base XL to the high-performance Raptor, Ford ensures there's an F-150 for every customer. The F-150's interior is functional, with the Ford Work Surface for on-the-go tasks and durable cloth seats that remain comfortable in various weather conditions. Storage solutions are abundant, and the addition of the Pro Power Onboard system highlights Ford's commitment to making the F-150 a mobile workstation. The F-150's cargo bed options and the optional tailgate step address practicality for loading and unloading, although it doesn't feature the same level of luxury as the Ram. When it comes to towing capacity and payload, the 2023 Ford F-150 edges out with a maximum towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and a maximum payload rating of 3,315 pounds, depending on configuration and powertrain. This demonstrates Ford's focus on performance and capability, catering to those who need a truck for heavy-duty tasks. The 2022 Ram 1500, while offering a comfortable and luxurious ride, provides a commendable towing capacity of up to 12,560 pounds with the EcoDiesel engine and a payload capacity that ensures it remains competitive in the full-size pickup truck segment. In summary, the choice between the Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150 in terms of form and function will largely depend on the buyer's priorities, whether it's the luxurious and comfortable ride offered by the Ram or the workhorse versatility and superior towing and payload capacities of the F-150.
Technology
2022 RAM 1500
7/10
2023 Ford F-150
9/10
The 2022 Ram 1500's technology is rated 7 out of 10, with the Uconnect 5 system offering a wide range of features but some usability challenges. The 2023 Ford F-150, rated 9 out of 10, excels with its Sync 4 system, providing easy-to-use interfaces, excellent voice recognition, and over-the-air updates.
Safety
2022 RAM 1500
6/10
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
Safety ratings favor the F-150, with an 8 out of 10, thanks to its comprehensive Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 package. The Ram 1500 scores a 6 out of 10, offering a solid set of safety features but falling short of the F-150's more advanced driver-assistance technologies.
Cost Effectiveness
2022 RAM 1500
5/10
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
The Ram 1500's cost-effectiveness is rated 5 out of 10. While it offers competitive pricing and features, the EcoDiesel engine option lacks substantial value compared to alternatives. The F-150, rated 8 out of 10, is praised for its towing and payload capabilities, advanced technologies, and safety features, despite its higher price point.
