Used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid for Sale nearWashington, DC

How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid cost?

Prices have softened 4.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,068 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 6/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid stands out most for efficiency and value rather than flash. It is described as comfortable and an excellent value for money, which fits you well if you want a practical three-row SUV without paying for more upscale alternatives.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, styling is uninspired, and the interior materials feel cheap. If you care more about fuel economy and accessible pricing than excitement or refinement, those compromises are easier to live with.

Only 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Highlander Hybrid is framed as a practical family SUV with strong efficiency, and its expert evaluation reinforces that it is built around sensible ownership rather than drama. Its hybrid setup is described as efficient and its cabin as quiet on the highway, both of which support a low-stress daily driving experience.

The performance notes also point to a smooth, soft ride and a powertrain that behaves predictably in normal use. On the cost side, the hybrid’s fuel savings are substantial enough to offset its price premium over time, which helps reduce ownership strain.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the same economy-first formula can come with modest refinement and pedestrian performance, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if the vehicle looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, brakes, tires, and cabin condition. Focus especially on signs of heavy family use, since this model is aimed at practical three-row duty.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE trim is the starting point, but it lacks some of the nicer touches found higher up the range. The XLE is the sweet spot for budget-minded shoppers, while the Limited adds genuine leather and other upgrades if you want a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with 243 horsepower, a CVT, and standard FWD, with AWD available through a supplemental rear electric motor. It is tuned for efficiency and calm commuting rather than quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are reserved for the top Platinum trim.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, while a 12.3-inch screen is available only on the top two trims. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are included on all trims, and XLE trims and above add a wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD hybrid is estimated at 36 mpg combined, and the hybrid’s fuel savings are a major part of its value story.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and care most about the Highlander Hybrid’s core efficiency and practicality.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim because it hits the sweet spot for shoppers on a budget while adding more everyday convenience.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds genuine leather and several other niceties that better match a higher budget.
• Platinum: Go here if you want the most equipment, including the top-end safety and tech features that are reserved for the upper trims.

The safety package is strongest on the top Platinum trim, where the surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,068 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,840, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $35,689 sits slightly below last year's $37,248.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if prices continue to drift down. If you buy well now, you may have less room for appreciation later, so condition and trim choice matter.

The good news is that this model’s efficiency and value proposition help keep it relevant with practical shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for frontal collision and rollover protection. The IIHS named the standard Highlander a Top Safety Pick+ and rated it Good across the board.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are only offered in the top Platinum trim.

The main caveat is that some of the driver-assistance systems can feel a little overactive in daily use, especially the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes efficiency and value over flash, with excellent fuel economy and accessible pricing.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $33,356, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $35,689 average.
• It adds a sporty XSE trim and upgraded safety features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $39,500, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,689 average.
• It brings a quiet cabin, standard advanced safety features, and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and available inventory, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
