2023 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

This year, Ford expands the F-150 lineup yet again. The big news is the debut of the F-150 Raptor R, equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine making 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The new 2023 F-150 Raptor R also has exclusive R-tuned Fox live-valve shocks, standard 37-inch all-terrain tires, and a few other goodies to justify its six-figure price tag.

The other new version of the 2023 Ford F-150 is more accessible: the XLT Heritage Edition. It has two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive 75 Years interior details. That’s the subject of this review.

2023 Honda Ridgeline Reviews Summary

Trucks are the most popular vehicles in America. We buy them for work, for play, and, let’s be honest, for posing. We slam them down, we jack them up, and we make them loud and imposing. We brag about them, too: how much power they make, how much weight they tow, how far they go off-road, and how reliable they are. Trucks are our pride, our joy, and for some people, our substitution for therapy.

The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is one of several midsize trucks you can buy, but it bucks convention, making it an outlier. For people who need a truck to tackle modest tasks and don’t want to live with the compromises inherent in a traditional pickup, the 2023 Ridgeline is perfect. Just don’t expect to fit in with the crowd described above.

Look and feel
2023 Ford F-150
7/10
2023 Honda Ridgeline
7/10

When buyers considered the 2023 Ford F-150, setting a budget was crucial given its vast array of configurations. From the regular cab to the luxurious SuperCrew, paired with cargo beds ranging from 5.5 to 8 feet, the options were almost limitless. Trims varied significantly, from the basic XL to the high-octane Raptor R, with prices stretching from $35,690 to a whopping $109,345. Our test model, the F-150 XLT SuperCrew, boasted four-wheel drive, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, and various appearance and utility packages, pushing the price to $69,115. Its look, highlighted by the Area 51 paint, combined traditional appeal with practical design, avoiding any contentious stylistic choices. Inside, the focus was clearly on functionality, with a modular setup that felt slightly basic but highly practical. Although some elements like the Ford Work Surface felt flimsy, the interior was generally well-received for its utility and comfort, especially with its climate-friendly cloth seats.

In contrast, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline showcased a rugged update from its earlier versions, sporting a bold front end and aggressive tires. The Ridgeline was available in four trims, all equipped with a robust V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Prices ranged from $38,800 to $49,866 for our fully equipped Black Edition in Platinum White Pearl. The Ridgeline aimed to blend the utility of pickups with the comfort of SUVs, sharing many features with the Honda Passport. Its cabin exuded a more refined feel, with quality materials and thoughtful layout that provided a modern, upscale experience. Despite being a midsize pickup, the Ridgeline delivered an unexpectedly sophisticated ride, distinguishing itself from more traditional, rugged pickups.

Performance
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
2023 Honda Ridgeline
8/10

The F-150’s performance was robust, powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Its 10-speed automatic transmission and optional four-wheel-drive system enhanced its capabilities, allowing for a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload rating of 3,315 pounds. On the road, the F-150 was solid yet could feel rough when unloaded; however, its handling was dependable. Fuel efficiency was slightly below expectations at 17 mpg compared to the EPA estimate of 19 mpg, though the power delivery was consistently impressive.

The Ridgeline’s driving dynamics, shared with the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, offered refined road manners rarely seen in pickups. With a 280-horsepower V6 and sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, it provided a smooth and responsive ride, though its towing capacity was limited to 5,000 pounds due to its unibody construction. The Ridgeline excelled in fuel efficiency, achieving 22.6 mpg on a highway trip, and proved nimble in urban settings. Despite its lower ground clearance and off-road capabilities, it remained a top choice for those prioritizing comfort and efficiency in a pickup.

Form and function
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
2023 Honda Ridgeline
10/10

Accessibility and comfort were key in the F-150, with features like optional step rails aiding entry and exit. The interior was spacious, offering ample adjustment for comfortable driving positions and copious storage solutions. The cargo bed was equipped with a spray-in bedliner and a power export system, enhancing its utility, though accessing the bed could be challenging without additional steps.

The Ridgeline blended everyday utility with thoughtful design. Its interior storage was ample, and the dual-action tailgate and in-bed trunk were standout features for versatility. The cargo bed offered innovative solutions like an integrated stereo and power outlets, setting it apart from typical pickups. The interior comfort and storage mirrored that of a premium SUV, making it highly functional for daily use.

Technology
2023 Ford F-150
9/10
2023 Honda Ridgeline
4/10

Ford’s F-150 featured the advanced Sync 4 infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen, offering wireless connectivity and over-the-air updates. The system, while sometimes slow to load, was generally user-friendly and capable. Additional features like the Pro Trailer Backup Assist and integrated trailer-brake controller highlighted its technological edge in utility.

Conversely, the Ridgeline’s infotainment system felt dated. While it included essential features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the system’s responsiveness and design did not meet modern expectations. The interface was simple but lacked the intuitiveness and advanced features found in newer models.

Safety
2023 Ford F-150
8/10
2023 Honda Ridgeline
7/10

The F-150 was equipped with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, providing a comprehensive suite of safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a post-collision braking system. It received top safety ratings from both the IIHS and NHTSA, underscoring its commitment to safety.

The Ridgeline’s safety systems, although effective, were based on older technology and lacked some of the newer features like blind-spot monitoring in the base trims. It still performed well in safety tests,

ensuring a secure driving experience.
