Love the features, and lack thereof, of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra. I owned one for 14 years, 138000 miles until a license-less driver on his cell phone ran a red light and totaled my car. Ive yet to see one in as good a shape as was mine. I was planning on driving it for over 250000 miles.Nov 27, 2023

This car is a fantastic value - the gas mileage is unbeatable! With an average of 28 mpg, I am in LOVE with this car. The only complaint I have right now is that I cannot get my phone to connect to the bluetooth but that is either because the technology doesnt match or I dont know how to use it!Mar 08, 2023

For the money it hard to beat these newer Hyundais, a very good value. Styled well for an economy car. Paint quality was not great but very reliable. Great on gas, easy to drive and park. Overall a good experience. Feb 19, 2015

Overall, I loved my 2006 Elantra, and would still be driving out had it not been totaled in an accident recently. I bought it new, and with exception of a couple of annoying quirks, it treated me well. It was good on gas, even with all the junk that had accumulated in the trunk. It was reliable, and held up very well when I unavoidably rear-ended another vehicle on the highway at approximately 35-45 mph. The car was a total loss - airbag deployed, front smashed in, hood crumpled, windshield cracked, but the interior was fully intact, so definitely a safe car. The only problems I had (the quirks) were 1.) Small door-mounted speaker cover somehow broke, 2.) Driver side windshield wiper loosened while driving in a snowstorm (this happened twice, both times the snow being heavy & wet), and 3.) brake light switch failed causing brake lights to stay on constantly, even when car was not running. (Fortunately this happened when the bumper-to-bumper warranty was still in effect). Overall, I would highly recommend buying this car as a second around-town car, as a commuter car for a college student, or as a first car for a young driver.Mar 14, 2013

I've used this car strictly for work, it has been great and reliable. Having a manual transmission it has more power than I expected with a 4 cylinder engine, it handles well and is fun to drive. I hate to sell it but my circumstances require it.Jan 03, 2013

Love my car, plan to keep it for family members to use when needed. Car has been dependable and the maintenance has been minimal. Changed all of the drive belts and the manufactured parts are long lasting. No real issues.Dec 28, 2011

I liked the gas mileage and comfort of this car. I only had to do maintenance on it, had no problems. This car is affordable and reliable and good quality. Looks sharp and has lots of trunk space. Great for first car or family car.Oct 08, 2011

There's nothing I don't like about this car, except that I used to have a 2007 Elantra SE trim, (not a GLS) so I miss the sportier aluminum rims and the steering wheel audio controls. Its a great car that has many standard features that most manufacturers consider options. And you can't beat the 10yr, 100,000 mile warantee, with the first 50K/5yr totally bumper to bumper, all for a price that beats all the competition.

Its a smooth ride..great on gas, and does'nt look like a real "family" car until you get in. Is a little light on the snow though...go easy, other people drive like crap! The compactness of it is nice though it is very roomy as well. Very happy with this choice. Feb 26, 2010

I love everything about this car, especially its fuel efficiency while still being very peppy and sporty! It's got huge potential for modding, even though it requires $$ to do it. There are many out there who think it can't be done/that it's not designed that way, but they are very wrong! Jan 21, 2010

What a gem. Purchased 2009 Elantra GLS 3 weeks ago. Much better MPG than expected (Consistently 35 MPH). Handling much smoother than expected and interior very quiet. Previous car was barebones 2002 Accent so this was a big step up. Excellent placement of speaker, interior roomy and comfortable. 5 speed has very short shift pattern but that is okay. Love cruise control. Lots of nooks and crannys to store stuff. Huge trunk. perfect for road trips and fun on the go but still practical for commuting.Jul 18, 2009

I was very weary about this purchase. We got the 2008 Elantra SE in Carbon Gray. After driving it and getting used to the features, I am surprised to say I love the car. It is very user friendly, the pickup is pretty good for a car that size, and although there were a few cheap plastics, the car is built well.
The Elantra gets great gas mileage and engine maintenance is easy with a spread out engine bay. While I may not like the exterior apprearance that much, but it will do. Certainly consider the Elantra if you are purchasing a small car by the end of 2008. Jul 19, 2008

Was not sure how it would perform as the miles keep adding up, but even after almost 55000 miles, there has not been a single problem! Hyundai rocks!Apr 14, 2008

Hyundai came to america as a cheap car manufacturer and most of the general population knew they weren't the best cars ever mostly because of mediocre at best styling and a very cheap materials feel on the inside. However, we see now that Hyundai is a very serious competitor in the market these days ever since they started putting out some very good cars. The new elantra is no exception to their new image. It is a very well made car with a lot going for it. The styling is pretty, something that women will go for more than men i would think, but the interior is just something great for a car in the under $20k bracket.
The hefty steering wheel is a good start for this car, and the rest of the interior follows suit along with it. Everything seems durable and built to last. Easy to use and ergonomic, it is a very user friendly car.
It drives well too, the steering could be sharper (we're not looking at a sports car or European built sedan here) but its crisp and easy. Acceleration is adequate and the brakes feel balanced, there's no travel in the pedals before you get anything out of it. The ride is very comfortable, even in the back despite the fact that there is not a very advanced suspension here. It goes around corners quite well and the seats hold you in place while you whip around.
This is a very good car for commuting, and has enough space for all your shopping as well.Mar 22, 2008

It is a very spacious sedan, especially in its class. You feel like you are riding in a larger class of cars such as the Accord or Camry. The interior materials are generally good, and the cars driving performance is competent. There are only minor fit and finish issues. The ride is generally supple and handling is generally good.Mar 17, 2008
