The original 360 had no power. once swiched out with a 428 its awesome. The
breaks can be temperamental it handles well but is scary for someone whose never
driven it at high speeds . the build quality is great. its a sharp looking truck. the
milage sucks. i get 8-12 miles per gallon. its easy to work on and a blast to drive.Dec 02, 2012

I like the older trucks. They are a lot more stylish from the new trucks today. You are starting to see more and more and more of these types of trucks being restored every day. I like to see that!Jun 23, 2012

The looks, the sound, the power, and the feel when I'm behind the wheel. I towed a 20' trailor house 40 miles from Yankton S.D to Menno S.D. and this ol' girl did it no problem. It makes me a proud owner of a Ford.Apr 13, 2012

Old beater truck, lots of power, fast, and handles good for a 4x4. Still in one piece after all the years of abuse. body style looks good but mine looks ugly lol. it gets about 12 mpg and is a pretty awesome truck. My Girlfriend hates it with a passion but I still love it. Its loud obnoxious and fun. it has a 351 Modified engine with a 4 speed granny low transmission, so it will go anywhere, fast. Dec 29, 2011

Have had this old Ford since forever. Bought her for 700 dollars back in 1994 and
drove her until last year before deciding to give her something back for all she had
given me. She is finished in Hot Rod Flatz black and has had just about everything
either replaced or rebuilt. Not show quality but I like her. Four speed with creeper
granny low. Built back when pickups were pickups and not cars with beds on them
like the ones today. The 460 gets about 8 mpg. Better than that when it is parked! Jan 17, 2011

I have a 1978 F150 Ranger Supercab with an 8 ft box.
It is in mint shape and I am in the process of restoring it to its original maginificence. The original paint is Orange with a dual tone brown on the sides. The Aluminum trim everywhere, outside and inside is in excellent condition. The extruded rubber on thr trim is perfect. This truck rocks. Long lean and mean and it will last another 30 years.Feb 02, 2010

It have 6 cylinder inline which is similar to cummins diesel.
It have so much power and torque that I blew up rear axles 2 times.
Yes it was fun to drive in woods.
I get mpg depend weather 10-20 mpg. If I tow 10,000 pounds then 8-12 mpg. Oct 19, 2009

Everything was made better with the removal of the 351m, and the swap to the big block! 429, then 460!
The 4 speed standard was switched out to a c6 automatic.
The rear end has new gears. 3.89 to 1 ratio.
The interior is very comfy!
The exterior catches the eye.
The way it sounds idling, Priceless!
It isn't too hard on the pocket book to maintain, and on fuel.
Fun Factor A+++++!Oct 14, 2009

It has a 429 cobra jet in it. 650 horsepower. braking is good but not 100%. As for handling it is smooth. Its built like nothing else. interior is nice needs some work and exterior is spotless. It eats gas like it was candy so i get 1 mile per gulp. maitenance is easy. OMG this truck is so flippin fun to drive.Aug 30, 2009

My wifes grandpa bought this truck new in 1977. It was the last '76 on the lot. When i purchased the truck from him last spring, it had a mere 42,000 miles on it.
since the truck had been sitting in a barn for the majority of the 15 years leading up to the time i purchased the truck, it quickly developed some leaks... namely from the engine and transmission.
i have replaced the headers, mufflers, water pump, battery, plugs, wires, air filter, u-joints, front tires, and more. in addition to this, ive had to add a quart of oil a week for the last 10 months or so. i really need to do a complete rebuild, but until that time, the truck still runs. and for me, thats all that matters... having a truck that starts EVERY time.
even though this truck is only 2wd, it took me through a rough winter of snow removal better than most 4wd couldve.
this truck can haul pretty much anything. its only a 1/2 ton truck, but ive had around 3500 pounds in the bed before.
i wouldnt hesitate to buy a truck like this again. its not the greatest truck in the world, but it works, and thats what matters most.Aug 07, 2008

I own one of these trucks. It is a short bed stepside that is Lifted 4in in the suspension and 3in in the body. This truck has been the most reliable truck that I have ever owned. I have had some problems with it but nothing major. I have restored it from the frame up. Great truck over all.May 28, 2008

I own two 1978 F-150's,one I drive every day,and a slow process of customizing.I bought the truck as the second owner. My F-150 has 130,000 original miles. The engine has had an rv cam and medium rise intake and holley 600cfm carb. Also added to the interior a pair of early 70's lincoln mercury high back split bench seats. This to me is the best truck that came off of the ford assembly line. The sleek but mean look of the body, to the roominess of the interior, and the never ending torque of the power plant and drive train. This truck is the workhorse and fun truck of american and foriegn made trucks. The space available in the bed,you could almost haul a house. The suspension,as always is ford tough, out of all the f and e series fords I've owned, not one of them ever needed alignment.1978 F-150 is BOSS!Mar 06, 2007
