overall

Summary
With 117 currently listed for sale near Baltimore, MD and an average price of $17,914.00, 33.3% of 2014 Toyota Highlanders for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Highlander 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Highlander stands out as a family crossover that feels more engaging than the segment stereotype suggests. Toyota gave it enough power, technology, and athletic styling to make everyday driving feel more appealing, while still keeping it practical for routine errands and weekend trips. It is described as being just as capable and competent running to the corner store as it is heading up to the mountains, which captures its broad usefulness well.
That balance is a big part of its appeal. The Highlander is presented as a vehicle for buyers who need family-friendly space and versatility but do not want something dull to live with. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for reliability, comfort, value for money, and a spacious interior with useful features. At the same time, some owners wished for better fuel economy and seat comfort, and noted the absence of modern conveniences such as push-button start and a sunroof.

Overall the experience of driving the vehicle is fantastic. The higher seating above a sedan car makes this a pleasant ride in any weather enabling the driver to see far ahead when driving in heavy traffic. It has enough air bags to float a tank.

Our Limited AWD is a very solid car that we expect to drive for a long time. Very comfortable seats. The space is easily configured for people or cargo. Love the shelf under the dash!

Overall... excellent vehicle. Front row and 2nd row seats adjust to accommodate most drivers/riders. I did alot of shopping around before I made my purchase and what I found is that the Highlander is really the best value for the money. The interior is very nice... not cheap looking as compared to some other mid-size SUVs which were actually more expensive.

The car feels solid, that’s what I was looking for. The downside is that the seats are uncomfortable and the mirrors don’t fold in.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2014 Toyota Highlander prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Toyota Highlander cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,837 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,923.45 |
| Year-Round High | $16,236.30 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,157 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.98% |
Prices have softened 1.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,250 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $14,923.45, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.78/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and value for money, and they also like the spacious interior and useful features. The overview points to a family-friendly crossover with strong safety, a roomy cabin, and a balanced mix of power and practicality.
The market also shows 33.7% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and it also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience with strong value over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Highlander as capable and competent in everyday use, with enough power and technology to make it feel well-rounded.
The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize that it delivers a lot of content for the price, which supports the case for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how well a specific example has been maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?
At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any evidence that safety or driver-assistance equipment may not be functioning as expected. Because this is a family-oriented crossover, condition matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE includes seating for 8, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, backup camera, and Bluetooth, while the LE Plus adds three-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex seating. The XLE adds navigation, leather seating, and a color digital display, and the Limited adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring.
- Powertrain: The base LE uses a 185-hp 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder that is described as barely enough for the vehicle’s weight. The optional and higher-trim 3.5-liter V6 makes 270 hp, pairs with a 6-speed automatic, and is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and more confident highway passing.
- Safety package: The Highlander includes a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of front and side impact airbags. The available pre-collision system is tied to the Top Safety Pick Plus award, and other available driver aids include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: Entune uses a touchscreen interface with apps such as Pandora, Yelp, and Bing. Navigation is available, but it does not get a dedicated dash button, and the system is also notable for live-pausing radio.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 FWD trims are rated at 19 mpg city and 25 highway, while the I4 FWD trims are rated at 20/25. An AWD V6 test trim was listed at 18/24, and mixed driving returned just under 20 mpg.
Which 2014 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Highlander is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE gives you the essentials, but it lacks the richer cabin materials and added convenience features found higher up the range. If you want the most affordable entry point, it works, but it is the least equipped version.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LE Plus is the best value for many shoppers because it adds three-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex seating without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most upscale choice, with 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring.
- Off-road trim: The AWD setup adds capability for rougher conditions, but the model is still best suited to daily family use rather than serious off-road driving.
The safety-package note to keep in mind is that the available pre-collision system is what unlocks the Top Safety Pick Plus recognition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,250 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.98% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,923.45, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Highlander's resale value?
The current average of $15,837 sits slightly below last year's $16,157.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and family-friendly reputation.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander safe?
The 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick Plus award from IIHS.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of front and side impact airbags. Available safety tech includes a pre-collision system, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The pre-collision system is the key feature tied to the top safety award, so you should make sure a used example has the equipment you want.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Prices have softened 1.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 stands out for its athletic redesign, strong safety, and family-friendly mix of power and practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the year with the sharper styling, strong safety credentials, and a broad mix of trims and features, the 2014 is the right place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop this year carefully because the market has softened and there are enough listings to compare condition and equipment before you buy.
