I have crazy vibration in my 2000 vw gti i have done a axle checked motor mounts and replaced bushings on the intake shifter rod looking for other possibilities
It shakes like crazy every gear and
every speed till I push in the clutch
then the vibration goes away
betcha one or more of the motor mounts need your attention~ https://www.google.com/#q=2000+Volkswagen+GTI+motor+mounts&tbm=sh op
there seems to be three...they can't ALL be bad, can they?~
you gotta get a woodblock and floorjack under the oilpan to push the motor/transmission up and note the separation...is this what you did?
you can tell if the vibration goes along with axle rotation....or is engine related...sure you can~
"a axle" do you not mean AN AXLE...should have done both, if the vibration goes with drivetrain speed~
I jacked it up and put on stands the throttle seems to have a strange idle and
very common fault on this model, the differential large gearl rivets come loose and it produces a strange vibration,if they fail alltogether then the gear comes through the gearbox casing and totally knakers the gearbox.pull the gearbox out and the gear can be repaired if caught in time.hope this post helps you mate
