Why it stands out
The 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI continues to uphold its legendary status in the hot hatch segment with its agile handling, iconic styling, and spirited performance. Now in its last model year before a major redesign, the GTI embodies the quintessential elements of a hot hatch, offering a blend of fun driving dynamics and practicality. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provides an engaging driving experience, making it a favorite among enthusiasts.
Inside, the GTI features a driver-oriented cabin equipped with modern technology and quality materials, while still retaining elements that pay homage to its heritage. The car comes with standard features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, although some might find its tech offerings a bit outdated compared to competitors. While its sporty suspension may compromise ride comfort on rough roads, the tight handling and feedback offer an exhilarating drive, particularly on winding routes. The GTI remains a well-rounded option for those looking for performance in a compact footprint.

The GTI line peaked at the mk7.5 model in terms of overall value. It’s got the best silhouette and cabin design in my opinion. And there’s plenty of technology to pair with the exceptional driving experience we’ve come to expect from the iconic 7-speed DSG 4 cylinder engine. If you’re like me, who isn’t too fond of the redesign of the mk8 both exterior and interior alike…I think the mk7 is the perfect option.
