What’s New for the 2027 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The 2027 Volkswagen Golf GTI carries over with minor changes. High-beam assist and keyless entry now come standard on every model. Otherwise, the lineup remains consistent, with base S, mid-tier SE, and top Autobahn trim levels. The GTI was last refreshed for the 2025 model year, and the 2026 model got more minor changes to the features lineup.
Design
The Volkswagen Golf GTI is a compact hatchback with practical packaging and sporty styling. Its scant trim lineup means there's little in the way of exterior upgrades, but simplicity is part of the GTI’s long-running appeal. It comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, and exterior design options include 19-inch wheels with summer performance tires and red brake calipers.
Powertrain
The 2027 Volkswagen Golf GTI features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GTI was one of the last cars, and the last Volkswagen, available with a manual transmission in the US, but that option was discontinued for the 2025 model year, and it's a little worse off for it. Still, it’s an enjoyable car to drive, thanks to its 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, and the taut suspension setup that makes the most of the front-wheel drive (FWD) layout.
Interior
The GTI seats five, though some competing small cars have more second-row space. The cabin features lots of plastic trim that cheapens the overall look and feel, but the seats tend to get lots of praise both for styling and comfort. Standard features include cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, and ambient lighting. Options include a panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather upholstery, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The GTI has above-average cargo space for a compact car, with 19.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and a total of 34.5 cubic feet with the second row folded down.
Technology
The 2027 Volkswagen GTI features a 10.25-inch digital information display and a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The system comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, and a seven-speaker audio system. The GTI also has haptic sliders to adjust the climate control and audio volume instead of the more common, and more user-friendly, switches or buttons. Options include a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and tri-zone automatic climate control.
