Why it stands out
The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI stands out in the crowded hot hatch segment due to its exceptional performance and practicality. Powered by a revamped 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, it produces an exhilarating 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, providing thrilling acceleration and dynamic handling. Designed for enthusiasts, it features precise steering and a well-tuned suspension that absorbs bumps while delivering sporty feedback on the road.
Moreover, the GTI retains its iconic styling, blending modern aesthetics with functional elements, such as available LED lighting and standard features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance found in its IQ.Drive safety package. Inside, the driver-focused cockpit highlights the fully digital information display, customizable gauge options, and a user-friendly infotainment system, all of which enhance the driving experience.
However, it’s not without considerations; some buyers may find the technology interface a bit counterintuitive, and the price can rise rapidly with added features. Overall, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI effectively combines exhilaration with day-to-day usability, making it a top contender for enthusiasts and practical drivers alike.

I just bought a 2022 GTI S 6-speed manual. Incredible handling (bordering on telekinetic!), a super-responsive, efficient engine and a competent and well-sorted clutch and stick. Perfectly spaced-out gear ratios and a powerband that gladly handles stop & go, commuting, and spirited driving with aplomb. For everyone who is concerned about the new Mk VIII interior . . . . the GTI S still comes with a volume/power and tuner knobs on the dashboard! The base S is a lot of value for the money and has all the creature comforts expected for a sport hot hatch. Another benefit - it is tuned and requires REGULAR unleaded gas!

Performance on the car is sizeable compared to my prior MK7. The newer infotainment and menus have a learning curve to get used to in the absence of buttons/dials. So far, I am happy with my purchase and will continue to develop opinions further into ownership once I can tell more.

SE auto drives and handles great. Comfortable, quiet and seems like its built well. Price is absurd. Controls are too - no knobs and so hard to use without taking eyes off the road. Kept me from the purchase.
