Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical minivan that does its job well, even if it is not the class leader. It is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, and that focus makes it appealing for families who need a vehicle that is easy to live with.
What gives the 2014 Toyota Sienna Limited a more distinctive feel is its second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs, which turn the cabin into a first-class space for passengers. Those seats provide serious stretch-your-legs room, making this version especially attractive for anyone who cares about second-row comfort as much as everyday usefulness.

Reviewed a 2014 Toyota Sienna on May 21, 2022
This minivan checks in most of the features a family can look for, it is roomy, has the most second row seats in class, huge cargo space even with the 3rd row seat up, the engine has enough power to haul the whole family, cargo and even tow 3500 lbs, it looks good outside, and the engine and transmission are pretty reliable mainly because of it’s timing chain design, pretty much bulletproof with adequate maintenance, the only drawbacks are it’s 2nd row seats not being stowaway ones, you will have to remove them to make more space if needed but that’s if you need a ton of space for cargo, they are also heavy and not that easy to remove. The other drawback is the interior front console materials, too much plastic which also looks cheap but surprisingly it takes the use and abuse a family can throw at it. The 2018 and up models have better materials but again, it’s matter of looks. I rather pick the Sienna over the Odyssey because of the Honda’s timing belt engine design, you have to do a major work every 75k miles which is gonna set you some $1500 back, not the Sienna, the Odyssey has a visually better front console, seats and overal interior craftsmanship, looks fancier but ultimately I believe the Sienna will go the distance with more authority, also remember the Sienna has more horse power and that’s also a plus when driving a heavy vehicle full of family people and cargo, thats why I rather chose the Sienna. There are other options like the Dodge Grand Caravan which has stowaway 2nd row seats, and a beefy engine but reliability is not on par with Toyota off course about $5k less on price, also consider the Kia Sedona, great alternative, very spacious and great design, this one and the Sienna have available ottoman 2nd row seats, rear entertainment system. All models getting better with the new technology.

If you find a listing below $12,493.19, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 4.67/5 user rating and 6.67/10 expert rating point to a minivan that does its job well. The 2014 Sienna is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, and the overview makes clear that it is a sensible choice for families who need space and everyday usefulness more than style or excitement. The expert review also highlights strong passenger comfort, especially in the Limited’s second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively and still find value.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview frames this Sienna as a practical family vehicle, and the expert review backs that up with favorable dependability language. The cost-effectiveness notes say reliability predictions are favorable, and that the Sienna earned an award for dependability in the latest J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study. It also notes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a van that has been used hard without enough maintenance history to match its mileage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the specific trim still works as expected. Because this model is often bought for family duty, interior wear and evidence of heavy use matter just as much as cosmetic condition.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model is the most affordable starting point, while higher trims add features such as power sliding doors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, parking sensors, Smart Key passive entry, and second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is available. The engine is described as responsive and strong, with combined fuel economy estimated at 21 mpg.
- Safety package: Higher trims add a Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System. Some of that equipment is reserved for more expensive versions.
- Infotainment: The system uses a dated screen, but it includes physical knobs and buttons, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, and available navigation and rear-seat entertainment on better-equipped versions.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert review cites 21 mpg combined from the EPA estimate, while the test vehicle returned 19.3 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2014 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price, but it is the most stripped-down version, so you give up many of the convenience and comfort features that make the Sienna appealing.
- LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power sliding doors, upgraded interior materials, Bluetooth, a reversing camera, and useful family-friendly features without jumping too far in price.
- SE: Choose this if you want the sportier setup, including sport-tuned suspension and steering, larger wheels, and a more aggressive look.
- XLE: Pick this if you want a more upscale cabin with leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and additional comfort and convenience upgrades.
The safety content notes that Toyota reserves some of the best safety equipment for the most expensive versions, so you should compare trims carefully if driver-assistance features matter to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right van.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 968 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.56% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $12,493.19, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $12,833 sits slightly below last year's $13,170.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can be good for you as a buyer but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less room for appreciation in the near term. Still, a well-kept Sienna can hold appeal because practical family vans tend to attract steady demand from shoppers who need space and utility.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna safe?
Except for a three-star crash protection rating for the front-seat passenger in a frontal-impact crash from NHTSA, the 2014 Sienna boasts impressive crash-test ratings.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety equipment includes a panoramic reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, a Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System that tightens the seat belts and prepares the brakes for maximum stopping power. The review also notes that Toyota reserves some of the best safety features for the most expensive trims, and that the lack of Lane-Departure Warning is a drawback.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says it is a good minivan for practical buyers who value utility and functionality.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $15,513, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,833 average.
- It brings numerous upgrades and improvements, with safety called out as a particularly important improvement.
The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and can live with the 2014’s older-feeling tech and mixed safety tradeoffs, this year makes sense. If you can stretch your budget, the 2015 is the better path because it adds meaningful improvements and is described as the best version of the Sienna yet. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 remains the value play.
