CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Toyota Sienna

Summary
With 938 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,547.00, 30.9% of 2017 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sienna 4.88 / 5 stars.
51.8% of 2017 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sienna stands out as a family-focused minivan that emphasizes space, versatility, and everyday usefulness. It offers three rows of seating, plenty of room for passengers, and a low-load floor, and it can still swallow 4'x8' sheets of plywood or sheetrock when the second and third rows are removed. That combination of passenger room and cargo flexibility is a big part of its appeal, especially for buyers who need one vehicle to handle school runs, road trips, and hauling duties.
It is also notable for its safety and convenience equipment. The Sienna comes standard with Toyota SafetySense 2.0 and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the safety suite includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Even the base LE trim is described as well equipped, with Softex upholstery on the stowable second- and third-row seats, keyless entry, push-button start, blind spot monitoring, and a large number of USB ports within easy reach of front and rear passengers.
At the same time, the 2017 Toyota Sienna is not without drawbacks. The source notes transmission issues for this model year, so it is worth paying close attention during a test drive. More broadly, the Sienna is described as not particularly cool, and used examples can be expensive because demand has kept values strong. Still, for shoppers prioritizing comfort, reliability, and a highly adaptable interior, the 2017 Sienna remains a compelling choice.

I purchased this vehicle for the reliability factor, but have absolutely been blown away by the engineering factor. I have never owned a vehicle so we’ll planned out. I mean from the hood prop, in-cab adjustable HID headlights, to the bottle holders (yes, it’s got cup holders front and telescopic for the middle seats) but up front the Toyota engineers thought, “hey, where do they put their Topo Chico bottles while their coffee sits in the cup holders?” Oh I know… and bam, their they are, sliding out from the dash. The 295hp is in a heavy vehicle, so it’s not peppy like a Mustang or Camero, but cruising at 60mph and you need to quickly pass someone… done! Those 8-gears means there’s always one for the moment and when you press that accelerator, she takes off. I can honestly say that I’m fully impressed with the workmanship, engineering and features of this Toyota Sienna Limited.

2017 Toyota Sienna Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Toyota Sienna prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,458 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,595.46 |
| Year-Round High | $20,189.81 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,172 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.54% |
Prices have softened 3.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 957 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $18,595.46, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — 4.88/5 is a strong user rating, and it lines up with the Sienna’s appeal as a family-focused minivan. Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, comfort, and reliability, and many also like the versatility of the seating and the convenience of the features. That makes it a strong fit if you want one vehicle that can handle school runs, road trips, and hauling duties without giving up everyday usefulness. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience as recurring strengths, and drivers also describe it as dependable for family use. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used minivan you can count on for daily driving and long trips. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t developed avoidable wear from heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden damage or repair quality issues. Focus closely on overall condition, especially signs of past bodywork, interior wear, and how the vehicle drives under load. Because this model year has known transmission concerns, a careful road test should be part of your buying process.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 957 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.54% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,595.46, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $19,458 sits slightly below last year's $20,172.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now and may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the Sienna’s strong reputation for family usefulness and comfort helps support steady demand. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it well, you should be in a better position when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $17,470, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $19,458 average.
- It adds Siri Eyes Free for extra voice-control convenience.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $21,335, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $19,458 average.
- It emphasizes all-wheel-drive capability for buyers who need it.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best primary pick if you want a well-liked, family-friendly minivan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price than last year. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2016 is the value-oriented alternative; if you specifically want all-wheel drive, the 2018 is the better path.
