Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Sienna stands out as a practical minivan that does its job well, even if it is not the class leader. It is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, and that focus makes it appealing for families who need a vehicle that is easy to live with.
What gives the 2014 Toyota Sienna Limited a more distinctive feel is its second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs, which turn the cabin into a first-class space for passengers. Those seats provide serious stretch-your-legs room, making this version especially attractive for anyone who cares about second-row comfort as much as everyday usefulness.

Reviewed a 2014 Toyota Sienna on May 21, 2022
This minivan checks in most of the features a family can look for, it is roomy, has the most second row seats in class, huge cargo space even with the 3rd row seat up, the engine has enough power to haul the whole family, cargo and even tow 3500 lbs, it looks good outside, and the engine and transmission are pretty reliable mainly because of it’s timing chain design, pretty much bulletproof with adequate maintenance, the only drawbacks are it’s 2nd row seats not being stowaway ones, you will have to remove them to make more space if needed but that’s if you need a ton of space for cargo, they are also heavy and not that easy to remove. The other drawback is the interior front console materials, too much plastic which also looks cheap but surprisingly it takes the use and abuse a family can throw at it. The 2018 and up models have better materials but again, it’s matter of looks. I rather pick the Sienna over the Odyssey because of the Honda’s timing belt engine design, you have to do a major work every 75k miles which is gonna set you some $1500 back, not the Sienna, the Odyssey has a visually better front console, seats and overal interior craftsmanship, looks fancier but ultimately I believe the Sienna will go the distance with more authority, also remember the Sienna has more horse power and that’s also a plus when driving a heavy vehicle full of family people and cargo, thats why I rather chose the Sienna. There are other options like the Dodge Grand Caravan which has stowaway 2nd row seats, and a beefy engine but reliability is not on par with Toyota off course about $5k less on price, also consider the Kia Sedona, great alternative, very spacious and great design, this one and the Sienna have available ottoman 2nd row seats, rear entertainment system. All models getting better with the new technology.

Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — it earns 4.67/5 from users and 6.67/10 from expert testing. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is aimed at buyers who value utility and functionality, and that focus shows in its practical minivan layout and family-friendly usability. Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is described as a practical, value-focused minivan, and the expert evaluation also points to favorable dependability expectations. Its 3.5-liter V6 and 6-speed automatic are presented as strong, responsive hardware, and the cost-effectiveness notes say reliability predictions are favorable.
The cost-effectiveness notes also mention free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership burden.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition can vary widely, so maintenance history and wear items matter more than the badge itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on any van with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on body condition, braking feel, and evidence of prior repairs, since those are the areas most likely to affect long-term satisfaction and resale.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sienna L is the most affordable entry point, while the LE adds upgraded exterior trim, dark tinted rear privacy glass, power sliding side doors, rear bumper protection, upgraded easy-clean fabric, an 8-way power driver seat, manual window sunshades for the second and third rows, triple-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, satellite radio, a USB port, upgraded speakers, a reversing camera, heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a universal garage door opener, and an overhead console with map lights, a sunglasses holder and a conversation mirror. The XLE adds automatic headlights, a power sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, Optitron gauges, woodgrain trim and power quarter vent windows. The Limited adds premium exterior and interior touches, parking sensors, Smart Key passive entry with push-button start, a premium audio system, memory for the driver’s settings, second-row lounge-style captain’s chairs, Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and one free year of Safety Connect services including Automatic Collision Notification.
- Powertrain: Every 2014 Sienna uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 266 hp and 245 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The engine is described as responsive and strong, and all-wheel drive is available.
- Safety package: The Limited includes Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification. It also can be equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management and Hill Start Assist Control. Lower trims miss some of those features, and the LE is specifically called out as lacking the safety content that should arguably be more widely available.
- Infotainment: The Limited’s infotainment system is described as dated in screen size and resolution, but it includes a DVD player and physical knobs and buttons. Bluetooth is present, though it is described as fussy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimate is 21 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 19.3 mpg.
Which 2014 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: Sienna L, Sienna LE, Sienna SE, Sienna XLE, Sienna Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Sienna L: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra convenience and comfort features found higher up the range.
- Sienna LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the biggest everyday upgrades, including power sliding doors, triple-zone climate control, Bluetooth, a reversing camera and more family-friendly convenience features.
- Sienna SE: Choose this if you want the sportier setup, since it adds sport-tuned suspension and steering, larger wheels, sportier styling and a power tailgate.
- Sienna XLE: This is the comfort-focused step up, adding leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof and other upscale touches.
- Sienna Limited: This is the most luxurious choice, with lounge-style second-row captain’s chairs, Smart Key, premium audio, parking sensors and the most advanced safety content.
The safety content suggests that some desirable driver-assistance features are reserved for the most expensive versions, so trim choice matters a lot here.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate market, so selective buyers should have some leverage if they shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 989 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.97% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,489, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $12,987 sits slightly below last year's $13,248.
That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can be good news if you're buying now but less favorable if you're planning to sell soon. A softer price trend usually means future resale gains may be limited unless the vehicle is especially clean, well maintained, and well equipped.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2014 Toyota Sienna earns a three-star crash protection rating for the front-seat passenger in a frontal-impact crash from NHTSA, while the rest of its crash-test results are described as impressive.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Sienna Limited includes a panoramic reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, Safety Connect with Automatic Collision Notification, Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and a Pre-Collision System that tightens the seat belts and prepares the braking system for maximum stopping power when a collision is detected.
A key caveat is that the safety score is held back by the frontal passenger crash result and by the fact that some useful safety features are reserved for higher trims.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers practical family utility with a lounge-style Limited trim and strong everyday functionality.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $15,567, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,987 average.
- It brings broader upgrades, especially in safety.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because pricing is softer and inventory is solid. If you can stretch for a newer model and want the more improved version overall, the 2015 is the better long-term pick; price-sensitive buyers should focus on a clean, well-kept 2014 with the right trim and safety equipment.
