After Driving for 7 hours, the car starts pumping COLD air into the cabin with the heat on.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving from NY to MD, about 7 hours total, and at the beginning of my
trip the car heat was working. It normally gets too hot, so i turn it off
occasionally. Toward the end of my drive, I turned the heat on and it was
blowing COLD air at me. I tried letting it run for a while and changing the
settings but all of the air was cold, after a long drive. The engine was clearly
warmed up. Help!

Thank you for replying! I did go and check the coolant- its totally empty. I called my mechanic and he suggested I probably have a leak. Any idea what these things take to repair?

Check the radiator hoses and the radiator for leaks, maybe they need replacing but if the leak is really small I would try Alumaseal and see it that stops the leak.

Be sure and replace the coolant with 50/50 water and anti-freeze or even a higher ratio of anti-freeze since you live in a cold winter area. The bottle will tell you the proper ratio for your low temperatures.
