Oil poured out onto the driveway
Wife bought a 1998 vw Beetle, she went out to
start it up, and it made a weird sound she
hadn't heard before, like listending to melting
plastic straw. She started it up, got outwalked
around the front and her oil was all over the
ground. Ran back over and shut the car off.
Causes? What to do?
Might be hydraulic fluid and not engine oil. Obviously you can't drive it until it's been inspected and problem fixed. You could pop the hood and see if a power steering hose came off. You'll have to check everything - oil, transmission, power steering, brakes, if it's not something you can do yourself, call a mobile mechanic or get it towed to a shop.
If it was engine oil then you have big problems. If the fluid was red it could be from the transmission. Shutting it off may have saved you thousands.
