How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 2.07% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 349 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to the Beetle’s fun driving experience, stylish design, and practical everyday usability. The overview also highlights the convertible version and the car’s distinctive personality, which makes it a fit if you want something with character rather than a generic compact.

With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback emphasizes that owners are thrilled with their cars, and the recurring themes include a fun driving experience, stylish design, and functionality. That combination suggests the Beetle can be a dependable choice if you value a car that feels special without giving up everyday usability.

The expert evaluation also points to smooth, on-demand power around the city and plenty of passing power for the highway, which supports the idea that the car is easy to live with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for well, since condition matters more when you’re shopping a niche model with personality-driven appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the Beetle’s appeal is tied to its style and trim-specific equipment, condition and completeness matter just as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim brings LED running lights, heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 5-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the Style & Comfort Package adds larger 17-inch wheels, body-color exterior trim, keyless ignition and entry, auto headlights and wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated front seats with leatherette, and a larger 6.3-inch touchscreen with HD and satellite radio plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SE adds a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and VW Car-Net Security and Service, while the Coast edition layers on a unique surf-inspired look and the Dune adds its own stance and graphics. The Coast looks like the best-value trim if you want the Beetle’s personality without pushing into the pricier special editions.
• Powertrain: The Beetle uses a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 174 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and the updated engine cycle is designed to improve efficiency without sacrificing everyday drivability. The automatic transmission is the only option, and the setup is tuned for smooth, easy power rather than hard-edged performance.
• Safety package: The SE’s blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and VW Car-Net Security and Service are the key driver-assistance additions, while the Coast also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The Dune deletes blind-spot monitoring, so trim choice matters if that feature is important to you.
• Infotainment: Base cars get a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Style & Comfort Package upgrades to a 6.3-inch touchscreen with HD and satellite radio plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Premium Package adds navigation, parking sensors, a Fender stereo, bi-xenon headlights, and LED taillights.
• Fuel efficiency: The updated engine adds 2 mpg in city driving and the expert review says it was easy to hit 29 mpg combined during testing.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, Coast, Dune, and SE Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still brings useful standard equipment like LED running lights, heated mirrors, a reversing camera, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the lowest-cost way into the Beetle, this is the trim to start with, though the available Style & Comfort Package is what really makes it feel complete.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the sunroof, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and VW Car-Net Security and Service. It gives you the biggest step up in everyday convenience and safety without jumping into the more expensive special editions.
• Coast: This is the trim to choose if you want the Beetle’s personality dialed up. It combines the S with the Style & Comfort Package and adds a sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, special houndstooth cloth upholstery, a surfboard-style dash pad, and unique Deep Sea Teal paint.
• Dune: This is the most distinctive-looking trim, with special paint and graphics, a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels, extra ground clearance, and a wider stance. It also gets unique sport seats and leather, but it deletes blind-spot monitoring and the top touchscreen with navigation, so it’s more about style than value.
• SE Premium: This is the most feature-rich version, adding 18-inch wheels, parking sensors front and rear, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, a Fender stereo, and an upgraded touchscreen with navigation. Choose it if you want the most equipment and don’t mind paying for it.

The safety-package trim note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert appears on the SE and Coast, but the Dune deletes it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 349 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.07% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 57.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,769, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $19,472 sits slightly above last year's $19,077.

That upward move suggests the Beetle has held value reasonably well for a niche model, especially one with strong personality and a loyal audience. If you buy well and keep the car in clean condition, you should have a decent chance of attracting interest later from shoppers who want something distinctive.

The fact that prices are still above last year’s level also suggests demand has remained steady enough to support used values. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle safe?

The 2018 Volkswagen Beetle earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Beetle’s safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the SE and Coast, plus VW Car-Net Security and Service on the SE. The Dune is a notable exception because it deletes blind-spot monitoring, so safety content varies by trim.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.07% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year gets a farewell-run update with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a special Coast edition, which makes it feel more distinctive than a typical carryover year.

The bottom line: If you want the Beetle at its most developed and distinctive, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years for a lower entry cost, but the 2018’s updated engine and special-edition appeal make it the stronger pick for most shoppers.
