Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I left Lubbock Texas with all the chain almost new life short of 1300 miles I'll give me 20
changed and then I took off without change tomorrow cuz I wouldn't do for one yet when
the man said I had to change my oil at 3000 miles or 3 months and you're the one who
came first cuz I drove to Savannah Georgia to see my little sister and I'm already almost a
couple hundred miles over what they recommended I should change my oil that should I
change my oil before I go back or should I change my oil when I get back or should I not
use my old at all I don't want to mess up my vehicle by changing my oil too much

3000 OR 3 months. Which ever comes first. Couple hundred miles over or under won't hurt but just make sure you check the oil level to make sure it's still got the proper amount in it.

Also consider that highway miles are easier on your engine. The engine runs at a more constant speed and stays at operating temperature for hours instead of heating up and cooling down. This burns off condensation and other contaminants from inside the crankcase making the oil stay cleaner longer. As dandy said, check your oil level during your trip. A good time to do this is where you stop for gas. Add any as needed. I'd recommend changing the oil when you get home from your trip. Then go back to the normal 3 month or 3,000 miles schedule. If you're going to be making this trip on a regular basis you can actually change your oil each 6 months or 7,500 miles. Whichever comes first. Changing the oil too frequently won't harm your engine at all. This is one case of too much of a good thing is still a good thing. Have a safe trip! HTH. -Jim
