I am replacing the timing chain and gears on my 96 GMC 1500 5.0L. 305 if I want to change the cam should I do all of it a the same time. I am also going to replace some of the gaskets to hopefully get a few more miles out of of the motor that has 400000 miles. Can you suggest anything else to help me to get a few more miles without doing a rebuild.

At 400,000 miles I would leave the cam alone unless it needs replacing.

I have a 1989 350 5.7 TbI and I have a 96 GMC 1500 with a 305 5.0L Vortec with over 250,000 miles can I use the the heads from the Votec 305 5.0L on the 350 5.7L TBI? 04 gmc sierra 1500 5.3 died on me on the highway got it towed home starting going at it, hooked two different scanners to it and not throwing any codes (ecm is working bc the map was reading correctly but also the rpm was zero) anyways checked fire none checked injectors they wasnt working either(built fuel pressure then unplugged fuel relay then turned engine over and the pressure stayed the exact same) i assume it might be the crank sensor but i would think it would throw a code, anyways came back this morning and before doing anything for the hell of it i checked the gas cap and tightened it and it fired up perfect three different times and the last time i let it run and it died after bout 45 seconds (fuel pressure reads 55) and after it died its doing the same thing cranks but wont fire or start 1 Answer
