2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV trades on the established Equinox nameplate to help ease the transition to battery-electric power, but the Equinox EV is just that: an EV, from the ground up. Its dedicated architecture is wholly independent of the internal-combustion-engined (ICE) Equinox compact SUV. It’s available in two well-known Chevy flavors, LT and RS, with additional differentiation among the more sedate 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT and the sportier 2RS and 3RS. Accounting for current availability puts base MSRP at $43,295, for the 2LT, but that will fall to $34,995 when the 1LT trim level becomes available later in 2024.

Verdict: The Equinox EV does exactly what its name promises, offering the benefits of electric power in a comfortable package, and at a price point that’s hard to beat.

2024 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The Rogue is Nissan’s entry into a crowded compact crossover SUV segment that includes well-known models like the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4, to name a few. The 2024 Nissan Rogue debuts refreshed styling and gets a tech overhaul highlighted by Google built-in apps, marking their first appearance in a Nissan.

Verdict: New tech features may be the headline, but an impressive powertrain and interior are what really make the 2024 Nissan Rogue stand out.

Look and feel

2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV

8/10

2024 Nissan Rogue

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV initially appeared similar to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, sharing features like rounded wheel wells and a flat beltline. However, upon closer inspection, the EV model showcased more decisive lines, a thicker body-colored C-pillar, and a sleeker grille. The front fascia was more body-colored, and the rear design was more defined, featuring hexagons and a light bar echoing the front. Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels were available on the 1LT and 2LT trims, while the higher trims boasted 21-inch versions. The Equinox EV offered vibrant color options like "Red Hot" and "Riptide Blue Metallic," which added a youthful and exuberant touch. Two-tone paint jobs were also available, with options for a white or black roof depending on the trim. Interior color choices expanded with higher trims, offering combinations like black with blue accents or Sky Cool Gray, and sportier options like Adrenaline Red.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue underwent its first major styling update since its 2021 launch, maintaining its lineup of S, SV, SL, and Platinum trims. The Rogue featured a new, larger grille that blended with its distinctive stack headlights and daytime running lights. The rear fascia saw minor changes, with redesigned inner taillight elements. The Rogue SV received new 18-inch wheels, while the Platinum trim sported 19-inch wheels with a machined finish. The Platinum model also included more black exterior trim and an optional black roof. Inside, the Rogue's dashboard was updated to accommodate a new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, enhancing its premium feel. The Rogue SV models received new materials throughout the interior, contributing to a more upscale design. The Platinum trim offered leather seats with quilted stitching and a new Chestnut brown color, providing a luxurious touch to the cabin.

The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV featured a hands-free start, allowing drivers to simply get in and go, similar to the Volkswagen ID.4. The Equinox EV offered one-pedal driving, managed through a standalone regenerative braking setting or drive modes like Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice, and My Mode. The single-motor, front-wheel-drive (FWD) variant delivered 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version boasted a dual-motor powertrain with 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. The Equinox EV could tow up to 1,500 pounds when properly equipped. The EPA estimated a range of 319 miles for FWD models and 285 miles for AWD, thanks to its 85-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. The Equinox EV supported DC fast charging at up to 150 kW, regaining about 77 miles of range in 10 minutes, and Level 2 (AC) charging at 11.5 kW, adding up to 34 miles of range per hour.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue's powertrain featured a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, part of Nissan's VC-Turbo lineup, which varied its compression ratio for power or fuel economy. The engine produced 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, outperforming competitors like the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester. However, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) was slow to transfer power to the wheels, affecting the driving experience. The Rogue offered standard front-wheel drive (FWD) and optional all-wheel drive (AWD). The suspension in the Rogue Platinum test car felt firmer than expected, impacting ride quality without improving handling. Despite the engine's performance, the exhaust note was less impressive.

The 2LT also offered an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat and an optional panoramic moonroof. The 3LT trim added a power-adjustable passenger seat, front-seat ventilation, and heated rear seats. Dual-zone climate control was limited to the 3LT and above. The Equinox EV provided 39.15 inches of front headroom and 38.49 inches in the second row, with 41.65 inches of front legroom. Cargo space measured 26.4 cubic feet with all seats in place and 57.2 cubic feet with the second row folded. Roof rails were standard on all but the base trim.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue offered nearly identical passenger space to rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, with differences in legroom. The Rogue's cargo space measured 36.5 cubic feet with the rear seats in place and 74.1 cubic feet with the seats folded, offering less space than the CR-V or Tucson but more than the Forester. The optional Divide-N-Hide system allowed for a flat cargo floor with hidden storage or a lower floor for increased cargo height. The Rogue featured a molded-in space for grocery bags and offered a power liftgate on SV models and a motion-activated liftgate on SL and Platinum models. The center console included a pass-through space and a storage tray at floor level.

The SL and Platinum models featured a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Amazon Alexa connectivity, and Google built-in apps. Google built-in offered better performance and streamlined connectivity for Google users, though connectivity was free for only five years.
