What is a fair price for this kind of work on a 2004 VW Jetta?

Asked by BlueItUp Aug 13, 2016 at 08:47 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLI VR6 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Jetta, Automatic, 2.0. I had a little fender bender and a local
guy I know through a friend says he could do the repair I need for roughly
550  (parts and labor) and I want to know if this is a fair price compared to
what a shop might charge.

I need a new radiator, a new compressor and possibly a new hood latch as
well as coolent/Freon. Plus labor.

depends on if hes using all new parts or used radiator is most likely about 180 ac compressor is close to 200 itself if bought at a shop you wouldnt even be able to get parts for what this guy is doing the job for.. so real question is do you trust this guys work? if so then its a good deal youd be close to a grand or 1200 at a shop

Smashing the radiator and the compressor is not a "fender bender" that sounds like major damage and the new body parts ALONE would run into the thousands- c'mon, is this a joke?

Thanks for the answer VulgarOgre, I'll keep that in mind. jamnblues, never said smashed, the radiator is bent/bowed and the compressor no longer seems to work. One of the headlights is a little askew and the hood latch was a bit worse for wear. Car wasn't going that fast. Plus the guy who answered before you quoted 1000-1200 at a shop not "thousands." I'm a little confused with your answer?
