2002 Mazda Tribute V6 LXX high idle after start up, low idle gone

Asked by Apr 10, 2014 at 12:55 PM about the 2002 Mazda Tribute LX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday, while at a stoplight I noticed car pulling like it wanted to just go. I put the
tranny in park and the low idle was gone and the rpms settled at 3800 RPM.  took it to the
shop and a new idle air control valve installed and after a while the same thing, NO low
idle at 800 RPM.   What would cause the car to just want to keep accelerating to a high
RPM?

Did you remove the negative battery cable for 15min to clear the memory? Clean the throttle body?

I believe throttle position sensors are a known issue with these also.
