Could be a few things like rear brakes worn out or out of adjustment or the rotor are warped. I have seen rusty or warped rotors cause this

My 96 Ford Thunderbird will not engage any gear including neutral no matter where the shifter is. It is stuck in park. I was wondering what are the problems that could cause this? My 2005 Thunderbird check engine light has been on for months. It has been to shop over and over. They have replaced the battery, changed some sort of sensor, the gas cap is tight and I filled the tank completely and also had the oil changed. They keep saying the scanner says it needs a new map sensor but they then checked with the local Ford dealer who said the car doesn't have a map sensor. What's up? 5 Answers
