Chevy caprice 1988

I have a 1988 caprice and it's running hot
and I also put a new radiator and water
pump on it the motor goes in and out like it
not getting enough fire I really want to
know how much will it cost to get the
motor to be highway ready

Does the transmission shift late as well? If so, it's probably a worn timing chain. Check your ignition timing. If it's retarded (late) that's what it's going to be. It may be a knock sensor problem too. If your Caprice has a valve tap the knock sensor may be picking up the tap and severely retarding the ignition timing. I had that situation with my '93 Caprice.
