call any auto parts store, and ask (they can look up a thermostat for your car), usually 180 degrees Fahrenheit. (average).

Let me put it this way any car running over 93 degrees is over heating a regular run temp is 90 degrees Celsius for any car sold on the market anything less then that your fine anything over that and your going to damage your engine. if your running at 115degrees you are going to start experiencing engine failure and soon as this kind of head is what warps the heads. have that car checked out immediately before you cause it damage. 4 main cooling issues are 1.Leaks 2.thermostat failure 3.Water pump failure (ussaly is followed by a leak but not always) 4. Cooling fans are no longer doing thier job (aka electric cooling fan may not be working or clutch fan may have gone faulty in its old age)

2001 beetle, 2.0 non turbo, we have replaced all the cooling sensors, the fans water pump, 2 thermostats, 3rd water intake manifold and outlet, 2nd resivor, going to go buy a 3rd resivor cap now. Wtf..... Will this car just not run without being 100% pure pink antifreeze/coolant. I just did a 20mi. Road test and it blew the resivor cap

sounds like you might have something blocked in the cooling system. have a pressure test done and see what happens. maybe do a rad flush as well.

My 2013 Beetle reports temp of 194 F. The fact that many report that temp makes me doubt the accuracy of that number. Why not 193 or 194. I suspect VW just announces a very hot or wicked hot engine as 194 F. The question is- should anything be checked when this report is issued?

I used to have a 98 audi that would flash me 194 F every once and a while and it was just a glitch with the dash. I did have a slow leak on the top of my engine however which would go away during operation but leak while it was cold due to expansion of hot parts. you could have something simalure making it glitch out so perhaps would be good to poke around see if there is any antifreeze leaking.
