I have an occasional thumping/knocking noise from rear of a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe
I bought my used 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe 4-cylinder AWD a little over two
weeks ago. At first all was great until I drove it to a near by city about 20
miles away. I took the interstate to get there. No problems at all. Even
drove it around there. Again no problem. But on my return trip home I was
at a stop light and had gotten a green light. I proceeded forward as normal
but then I heard and felt a "thump" from the back. Didn't give it much
thought thinking it was a bump in the road. I entered the highway and all
was fine. Got off an exit to get something to drink when the "thump" return
again but a little worse. But after that, the SUV drove fine. The thump didn't
return until I got off at my hometown exit. Where once again..."thump".
Each time the thump would return, the SUV was going from a stop to
moving. I took it to the dealership I bought it from and at first the "thump"
didn't occur when they drove it. But they did a quick look over but couldn't
find anything. So I went to drive it from the dealership when the "thump"
returned. I went back to them and this time the tech found out what I was
talking about. He thought it might be a bad axile mount. But after a very
detailed inspection... once again nothing. It still does it occasionally now. I
was told if it continues to bring it back in a week and they will send it to
Hyundai to see what they find.
