2010 Dodge Ram pickup. Wondering why battery will go dead, like totally dead in only one night, and then not do it again for a couple months, or a couple weeks??

Asked by May 22, 2017 at 01:08 AM about the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There are no dome lights left on, or anything evident, and it is so intermittent, that it only used to happen every 4 to 6 months. Now is has happened twice in 2 days this spring, and then about 3 weeks later. When it happened last month, I checked the battery voltage with the cables still attached, and it read less than a 1/3 of a volt  (.3 volts). Then I disconnected the cables and it read 6 volts. So there was still some current draw, with nothing evident. When it happens, the key fob will not unlock the door, and no dome lights, and the key fob will "stick" in the key slot, and no clicking or starter noise as if totally dead. I am on my 3rd battery, as it finally kills the battery after too many "dead heads".....  The "trim" choices do not include the Big Horn model that it is, so will pick an ST....

This sounds like the delay exit system is not shutting down after ththe predetermined time setting, the bad part about this is that the dealer is the only place that can access this part of the systems programming, and your also kinds stuck cause if the voltage actual reaches 0 you could loose all the presets in the BCM then none of th accessories will work and that will just add more money to the bill.
