Horn honking when locking and unlocking
I had bought my 2010 Chevrolet 1500 used with only 30000 miles on it several months ago. Since then when I would unlock it with the remote there would be no honking sounds. When I would turn the key to start it up there would be a couple of small short quick honks. When it comes to locking it there will not be any honk after the first press of the remote but there would be one honk after the second press following right after the first. A couple days ago when I shut the engine off the radio which stays on till the door opens started acting like it was barely getting any power. After I got out and closed the door I hit the button to lock and there was barely and sound of locking and no flash of the lights. Pressed it a couple more times and was same result. After a couple of seconds it had acted like there was a delay and acted by doing three distinct locking sounds and flashing of the lights and a couple of honks like it was catching up. Since then when using the remote to unlock after first press there will be two short honks. Then nothing when turning the ignition on. Then one short honk after the first press of the remote to lock. I do not know what is suppose to be normal and what could be wrong that could be causing whatever the problem is.
A 2010 model may still have the original batteries in the key fob. If so, they're probably dying. I'd replace them. Same as the battery in the truck. Have it load tested. Original equipment Delco batteries are only designed to last for 3 years. So if you still have the original battery (from the factory) it's time for a new one. HTH. -Jim
