is it common for the egr to go on a golf
Vw garage said my her needs replacing and will cost me £460 to repair. Is this a
common fault. I have had three golfs and this has never happened before.
EGR units fail all the time but it's more common on a higher mileage vehicle.
i have not heard of egrs going myself in such a new vehicle. the only way i can see this failing is if you either have a lot of mileage on the car or if you been using the worst octane gas you can find. but this recall could also play a roll in the egr failing https://www.automd.com/recall/campaign_c95645/
Bettyboop's car is a diesel; the EGR system gets plugged up with carbon over time. Perhaps it can be cleaned rather than replaced. Also a system additive to keep system clean, such as a BG product, could be used periodically to keep this from happening again.
