Shifting standard transmission

Asked by Aug 20, 2016 at 11:06 AM about the 2009 Ford Ranger Sport RWD

Question type: General

I have a 2009 Ford ranger 4.0 liter 5 speed. I have
this truck since it was new,and I've noticed that
when I am on the highway and I want to pass . I
normally shift down to fourth gear and pass . The
issue is when I shift back into 5th gear the clutch
pedal will act weird when I release it and a little
noise. I don't think that this is normal. What is
causing this? It don't slip. It only does it after I've
been on the highway for awhile. Like a hour or two
without shifting it seems like the clutch pedal is
stiff and it will do that up and down motion in the
pedal when I shift back up to 5th. Any help would
appreciated. Thanks ken

Sounds like you may have more than one problem starting to show up. The noise is most likely the throwout bearing starting to wear out, the other sounds like the slave cylinder may not be operating properly also casused by wear and the heat it is subjected too just normal driving. My suggestion is if this is not really bothering you yet just go ahead and drive it until they fail and then replace the entire clutch kit, that will have the new clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and the hydraulic slave cylinder, and then have the flywheel surfaced, this will take care of any clutch chatter you may have, also helps a new clutch break-in faster.
