Roller engine swap

Asked by Sep 12, 2016 at 12:25 PM about the 1996 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi my name is Manny and I have a 1996 Silverado
with a worn out 350 roller cam engine. A buddy of
mine has a freshly overhauled 1990 flat tappet
cam engine. My question is do I need to have a
roller cam engine in my truck to not set a check
engine light code or can I use the bottom end flat
tappet engine and use all the top end on my truck (
heads, intake etc). Any suggestions would be
great. Thanks
