1999 vw passat head lights come on But my running lights don't

They do work but only if I aply my breaks but once I
let off my breaks they go back off please help i
only have a few days to have my car inspected

Sounds like you have more than just 1 problem, start looking for cross circuits, the park lights should not turn on when you step on the brakes, so that tells me that ther is a crossed up circuit somewhere in the brake/tail light circuits, after that is taken care of then test the headlight switch for power to the park light connector right at the headlight switch, if no power then check for a blown marker light fuse, if you have power then dig out your wiring diagram and start tracing out for an open circuit somewhere in the marker light wiring.
