Check engine light

Asked by Jun 28, 2017 at 01:21 PM about the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle GLS 2.0

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my 2000 VW Beetle to a local shop to figure
out  why my check engine light was coming on.  He
had it about a day and a half. Called me and told
me he found the problem, some hose was letting
air in which would make it stall sometimes why I
was driving and causing my rpm to rev up at stops.
Anyway, by the time I got down there, he found
another problem, something unplugged back by
the firewall. So he reset it, then told me over the
weekend I needed to take my car and drive slow for
about 20 minutes then hop on frwy and drive it
another 20 minutes. Well needless to say the
engine light stayed on and when I took my car back
down there so he could reset it again and inspect
it. No deal! Now he's saying 13 different codes are
coming up. So it's back at their shop and not sure
what's next. I already paid him $450 dollars and
still the check engine lights on. I'm just sitting here
and waiting. I don't know what to do. I'm on a very
limited budget, like most people are. I can't afford
to take it somewhere else. Could anyone please
help or make a suggestion? Thank you very much.

Tell the shop to fix the issue with the money you already gave them Because you won't give them another dime. The first issue sounds like a vacuum leak, so they replaced a hose and plugged in a connection for $450 and a weeks time. I say rip off. Find another shop you can trust. 13 new codes sounds suspect to me.
