New radio, lousy reception.

Asked by Jun 10, 2012 at 01:07 PM about the 1998 Volkswagen Cabrio 2 Dr GLS Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just installed a new radio in my 98 Cabrio. The radio reception is terrible. An adapter was required to connect the
antenna and I originally suspected that that was the culprit. So I purchased an antenna that required no adapter and
the problem persists. Radio reception is limited out here (coastal Oregon) but with the old radio and in any other
vehicle it's a lot better. I do get some reception when I'm in the city. But get just a few miles out and it's gone.  I am
about to yank the tuner and return it; but wanted to make sure there wasn't something specific to this car that I need
to address.

Not sure about the specific car, but I once bought a new headunit, and had the same issue of poor radio reception. I ended up taking it back.
