Toyota Sienna 2000 Model

Asked by Mutiu Sep 16, 2017 at 03:36 PM about the 2000 Toyota Sienna CE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Few days ago, I started hearing the sound
of the engine louder than usual and as of
now the car drives like it's dragging a
heavy load. When I engage the gear in
reverse, it makes a hard sound and double
shift sound as if about drive with the
handbrake on and when I move to the
drive mode the sound is once. Just this
morning, my check engine light came on.
What can I do?

Check to see if your "flex" pipe on your exhaust is worn through. The flex pipe is a braided stainless steel section in the exhaust. If there is any fraying you will hear a lot of exhaust noise under the van. Also, it if it gets real bad the pipes can move and clang around, that could be the sound you hear as the engine twists when you put it into reverse.
