Oil gauge

Asked by Feb 14, 2016 at 10:14 PM about the 2002 Toyota Sequoia SR5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My oil gauge keeps fluctuates as i am driving. It
will start low and then go up and then no reading,
as I'm driving. When I come to a stop the oil gauge
goes up then when I start to move it will stay at the
same reading until I get to 50 mph, then it will fall
to nothing. There is no engine noise or
overheating.

Sounds like a failing oil pressure sender, as the engine isn't making any noises I doubt it is a oil pump failure, but if you want to be on the safe side install a manual oil pressure gauge just to verify the oil pressure is stable. Or you could take a chance and just replace the sender and see if it stops the gauge problem.

Also wouldn't hurt to ensure the oil level is full - I know its simple but a lot of people have overlooked that
