i have a 96 Grand Prix with a 3.1 and want to know if i can swap it out with a 3800 with a stock supercharger
You'd want to change the transmission too. The supercharged 3.8s came with the heavy duty transmission. Then there's the electronics. The supercharger's boost is computer controlled. The PCM, engine compartment wiring and the driver's information center on the dash would most likely have to be changed as well. Honestly, if it were me, I'd buy one that came from the factory supercharged. It'd probably cost about the same. HTH. -Jim
Agree. It's not worth doing the conversion. You are basically rebuilding the car from the ground up. As well as everything mentioned above you also need to change the fuel pump to the two stage one used in the supercharged cars. GTPs are not hard to come by. Sell what you have, but a nice GTP and spend the time and money you would spend on the conversion project on customizing it to your taste. You will have an awesome car at a fraction of the price. Plus you'll have it now instead of 3 years from now if and when you finally manage to finish the project.
