What is wrong with my Audi?
I have a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro 1,8T and it has been experiencing some issues. It has
196,000 miles on it but is in great condition. I just got the car a few weeks ago and
now when driving (whether in automatic or tiptronic) it will not shift out of first gear.
Also, when I pop the hood after attempting to drive it you can see smoke coming from
somewhere under the hood but im not sure which part. The car starts just fine and
such but also when I shift into Drive it doesn't begin moving slowly automatically like it
is supposed to. This is a car with an automatic transmission by the way. Could a dirty
throttle body be the problem? Also, something is leaking out of the bottom of the car
could be transmission fluid could this be the issue if it is indeed a tranny fluid leak? Or
could it be an issue with my torque convertor or do you think it's a bad transmission
itself? I have not brought it into the shop yet since this issue occurred since I am broke
but I will bring it in when I have money and would like to have an idea of what could be
wrong. Please let me know your thoughts on my issue. Thanks!
First check the color of the fluid, is it brown/carmel color like oil, or a dark red color for transmission fluid? You might just be low on fluid casuing a shifting problem.. repair the leak first. The smoke is from the leak. at 196K, your due for a trans rebuild or replacement. Start saving your cash.
