power problems

i have a 03 GMC Sierra. when you put it in
drive the light on the dash stays on reverse
until you stop put it in neutral then drive
again. Once driving you can push the petal
to the floor and it take forever forever for it
to get up enough speed to change into
second gear but when it changes  it throws
you back in the seat like u have hit a turbo
button. then it has all the power you need.
when you stop to put it in park if you dont
wait until the light on the dash goes to park  
and  just turn the key off it wont start back
because the light is under the reverse light.  
Has anyone had this problem or know what
the issue is?

Sounds like the gear selector switch is either getting sticky, loose or out of adjustment, or just plain worn out. If you have a live data scan tool you can check,the signal from the selector switch to the computer to see if they match the gear selected, if they don't then it's time for a new switch. From a quick search it seems that this is a known problem, so aftermarket might have the part you need and it won't cost and arm as it would at the dealer.
