Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 chevy c1500 that chugs and misfires
when holding at a steady speed like 55 or so. I
changes the plug wires and cap and rotor but to
my surprise when it got dark outside 3 of the 8
plugs were lit up. So I replaced the wires again and
yet again it's doing it. Any idea what could be
causing the chugging or the plugs to keep going
bad. I shld mention when started it has a foul odor
but not like an odor from the cat tho.

Remove and inspect the spark plugs that you can see arcing (lighting up). I doubt that two sets of wires are defective. The reason it's misfiring is because of the arcing. Perhaps the porcelain on the plugs got cracked when they were installed. HTH. -Jim
