Car looses all power??? Even the clock goes out and dies driving at times

Car clock and all lights on the dash go out
and anyway that knows anything about jetta
that always stay on I can't figure it out with
the touch of one jumper cable hitting a
terminal all the power comes back so weird
...today we brought our kids fishing after
jumping the car went to the store left it
running backed out from store car stalled
been chasing this issue for awhile some
days the clock will stay on after a jump and
some days all power is fine I'm lost at this
point it's an ongoing problem and have
asked many ppl and can't get to the bottom
of this problem any help would be great....

You have checked for a cracked main fuse right? Make sure the battery terminals and posts are shiny clean, none of that black corrosion, if that is good then move on to checking all of the main power and ground connections, take your time as there are a number of them, if your good there then it starts getting a little messy, you will need to remove power boxes and check for burnt connectors or damaged power box terminals, damaged insulation, etc. Do you have a good shop manual with wiring diagrams and component locator in it? If not it would be advisable to get one.
