1998 Dodge Ram 1500 sport 3.18 5.2L v8
My trucks oil pressure sits real high when first starting.
After running a bit it comes back down to normal and
rides there for a bit unless I go above 2500 rpms then it
shoots almost all the way up. What could cause this?
Stuck oil pressure bypass valve. Before you tear it down to replace the oil pump make sure it is that, and not a gauge or sender messing up, Put a manual gauge on it temporally, that will give you an accurate reading both cold and hot. I have seen some senders do the same thing read way high until they warm up then tend to read right or just a little high, and a few gauges that just are not correct.
