Transmission leak

Asked by Jun 25, 2016 at 01:06 PM about the 2011 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2011 2wd ford ranger sport seems to be leaking transition fluid. I'm pretty
sure a hose is leaking that goes to transmission cooler. Then I notice some on
my drive shaft..I doubt it's blowback from driving. My question is, would a
plugged pan filter cause these leaks?

No, a plugged filter will actually stop the fluid from flowing so no movement of the vehicle. If you have fluid on the driveshaft it is either an output shaft seal leaking or the vent tube, and that could be caused by a transmission overheat. Replace the leaking hoses and check the transmissions operational temp,if it is getting too hot then the cooler plugged, you can put on a auxiliary tranny cooler out in front and just bypass and plug the cooler in the radiator altogether.
