Why won't my ignition switch not turn?
I have an 2004 GMC Envoy with a 4.2 motor a
few months ago my envoy was on and
running and I went to turn it off but the
ignition switch would not turn off but the key
would still come out so my husband had to
take the cover off under the steering wheel
and he had to take this little black box looking
thing with a white wheel out under the
steering wheel and that how we have been
having to turn my 04 GMC Envoy on and off
with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the on
position help please
Looks like you'll need a new ignition lock cylinder.
Most likely the rack and sector assembly in the steering column is broken. A common GM failure point. When you turn the ignition lock cylinder the rack and sector assembly moves a rod to activate the actual ignition switch at the bottom of the steering column. Hope that helps! Jim
