Doesn't surprise me if indeed you ran out of oil. Where did the oil go? Is the leak that large, burning? You might have done damage to the engine that isn't easily fixed. As far as the engine light, you can have the car scanner for the code or codes at any local auto parts store. Post the 4 digit code back here and we can help further.
