Although the individuals I dealt with were great especially the mechanic and also the driver the overall experience was horrible. One hand and the other hand didn’t know what each other was doing. Far from streamlined.slow and really a mess. A bad system and I fly a lot.

Everytime I have sold a car, and admittedly, it has not been a lot, I get the money, and the buyer gets the title and the car. This time, I signed my car away and waited for 2 days for the money to show up. I'll never do this again.

I got an offer and

I got an offer and a pickup date and took the day off work, no one showed up and when I called they said they moved it and I needed an inspection. After the inspection they lowered the offer, since I was moving I had not choice and needed to get rid of the truck. If I had know about the extra time for inspection and low ball offer would have went somewere else or posted it online.

When you sell your car ,you are expected to get paid same day like ad states,that wasn't case it could take up to 4 days after purchase.

Lowered offer twice. Scheduled pickup before mechanic inspection. Mechanic was hard to ge ahold of. Had to reschedule pickup numerous times. Not an easy peocess.

I sold my car to CarGurus as I am a graduate student who was not in a position to have the time to sell the car privately. When I first gave them the information on my car, I included the fact that the car had been in two accidents (one major, and one fender bender that truly just scratched paint). I also shared the VIN, so they should have been able to find this information very easily.

One of my biggest issues with CarGurus is their inability to stick to their advertised timeline. For example, they state that they have a 48 hour window that it takes for them to verify documents. I called after this 48 hour window to see if I had entered information incorrectly, or if I had missed a communication. The employee I spoke with told me that my documents were verified, and I would hear from them soon. However, when I heard from them later, they told me my documents could not be verified. I had to submit further documentation to verify my address, which I understand. However, I was put to the back of the queue and my 48 hour window restarted, and included waiting over the weekend, because CarGurus only works business days. This is fine, but their advertising should be in business hours/days since that's the truth. Their employees should also be trained to not lie to people trying to sell their car to them.

When my documents were verified, a third party mechanic (who was wonderful) came for a pre-purchase inspection of my car. I was told that I would hear within 48 hours if they were going to lower the offer price on my car based on what he reported. When 48 hours passed without hearing from them, I removed the plates from my car. So I was very disappointed when they called me after the weekend to tell me they were reducing my offer price by $1500 since the car had an accident history. I understand that accidents reduce the value of a car, but this felt very sneaky and underhanded because I had informed them of the accidents from the beginning and I had the plates surrendered, and I was informed of this less than 24 hours before pick up of the car. I was stuck and pretty much had to accept their offer, or try to sell a car without plates on it to someone who was willing to test drive it without plates or not test drive it at all, and I was going to have to have them come to my address because I was not going to take it anywhere without plates.

The miscommunication that exists between the different teams that comprise CarGurus is astounding. I had to change the address of the pick up and sign a limited power of attorney to someone else to release the car since I was going to be unavailable. Both the mechanic and the car driver at pick up went to the wrong locations, which resulted in the delaying of the car being picked up (and delayed my payment). When CarGurus then sent the driver back to pick up the car, the Bill of Sale stated an inaccurate mileage and was not able to be corrected until the next week (due to a holiday weekend). This delayed pick up and payment AGAIN. So ultimately, CarGurus advertises a 7 day sale on their website, and I was not able to sell my car for 22 days.

Additionally, I felt that I was given minimal instructions at all times, and was surprised when I had to do additional things. For example, CarGurus sends an envelope that includes instructions to not sign the title before time of sale at risk of voiding your offer, so I did not sign my title. However, since I was not present at the time of sale, I was supposed to have done so, and I was not informed of this until the car was about 20 minutes from being picked up and I was unable to sign the title. Ultimately, this issue was resolved, but it was unnecessarily stressful and could have been avoided with proper instruction.

Overall, CarGurus has a predatory model for buying your car and is a better fit for selling your car if you have nothing to do but wait around for them and if you like surprises!

You guys waited until the day of pick up to tell me you didn’t have my phone number and couldn’t reach me, even though you were able to email me to tell me this.

Then when I reapplied you lowered the offer. Sounds like a scam to me!

Cargurus car offer program is very bad. The process took a very long time, they did not communicate the process appropriately, they use 3rd parties to independently verify value(an opportunity they use to devalue the offer they supply) then they use a 3rd party pickup system that apparently went on vacation during my pickup window. I had to call numerous times to verify appts that Cargurus failed to meet. The payment portion was days after the pickup of the vehicle, and the lien payoff took 5 days longer.
