The idea of the process is great. But it's very if putting too have someone come pick up my vehicle without putting the check in my hand. My car is long gone but it's still showing like I owe because the check was mailed. That just doesn't sit right with me. In the world of scams that has become life they need to rethink this process. Ask me how I feel about once the balance has actually been paid.

Somewhat of a hassle as my wife had passed away and her name was on title . Affidavit of Heirship with notary was bit much , but otherwise not a bad deal for a used car

Sold my car to Car Guru

The experience was ok. They missed the pick up time and date twice, and the whole deal was delayed well over a week.

Instead of sending a roll back to pick up the car, the driver tried to catch an Uber ride and drive the car back. Apparently Uber ultimately refused to come out to where I live, which is quite rural. The driver had to catch a ride with her sister.

There was a secondary issue with getting paid. There was no check in the advance package, which is apparently where the check normally is. After the car was picked up, Car Guru’s called and said that my bank didn’t participate in direct deposit, so they would send a check. This is rather unlikely to actually be true, as I’ve had funds direct deposited from numerous sources.

A check arrived by FedEx four days after the car was picked up. When I deposited the check (yesterday), the purchaser’s bank wouldn’t verify funds to my bank by phone, so my bank had to put a hold on the a availability until they receive the funds. So my ability to access the funds won’t occur until at least ten days after the car was picked up….assuming the check is good.

That said, Car Guru’s did bid around 15% higher than Carvana…so there is some value in the delays and extra effort on my part.

This is the second time I’ve sold a car through CarGurus. The first time was fairly easy, the paperwork was straightforward and pick up was not too difficult. This time - I couldn’t schedule a pick up for days. The emailed link was broken and I was transferred 5 times to different people on their customer service line to try and schedule the pick up. When the day arrived, the paperwork on their end was wrong. They had transcribed the mileage incorrectly and the pick up service was on the phone with CarGurus for almost AN HOUR trying to amend the situation. My husband took time out of busy morning and had to cancel an upcoming appointment because the process took so damn long. Never again. Going to CARMAX if I sell another car.

Overall it was a good experience. It would have been closer to perfect if the payment communication process was clear. I was given payment guidelines that did not match what actually happened. It was cumbersome. Having said that I did receive payment and all worked out. Maybe a dedicated check clearance tracking system would serve the customer better and eliminate the uncertainty. 🙂

4 Hours late

I had a lame day (taking off from work to sell my car) because Cargurus came very very late. An hour after my appt window passed I received no notification as to what was the status of buyer/driver. Called for an update and a while later the buyer called and said they would arrive 4 hours after my appt window closed. Otherwise it was seamless.

Either except it or don't. Beyond that it was ok. Just like car lot instead of a lieing cheating sales person you get a emotionless PC that you can't argue with. If your in a hurry as I was use them if not don't.

Trouble explaining death of Stanley and shuffling papers for executor of estate . Pickup rep was cold and clueless. Time was 9 to 11 am. He called at 9 after 11 to say he was on his way should be there by noon. Then did not identify or introduce himself.
