Okayish experience. Self inspection was tedious, only to be put, understandably through a second inspection.
It was more so the inspection that got me. For example a sticker was left on the console (could be peeled off in two seconds) but was noted on the inspection as “damage”. The entire inspection was very nitpicky about things like that and others like fingerprint smudge. Seat covers were on the car and one had come off the seat so you could clearly see the seat underneath but the inspector instead decided to say there was possibly damage to both seats without even knowing.
Moving onto the pickup process, those people were great but a long process once again as a third inspection was being done on the vehicle. I can say at least in this area, thorough inspections are done on cars.
In conclusion, CarGurus lures you in with their high offer only to understandably knock it down after inspection.
They are making profits regardless on all these vehicles.

I sold my car to Car Gurus and the experience was OK, not great. They lack in their communication, and I found that to be very frustrating. Their offer was fair considering they pick up your car and I'm outside their area. All in all, it worked out even with the communication issues.

CarGurus made me a terrific offer, maybe too good of an offer. At the last minute, they deducted over a thousand dollars based on inconsequential OBD codes. The inspector told me himself that those codes were simply history in the system and did not indicate that the car required any repairs. Even with the last minute sandbagging, the offer was still higher than CarMax and Carvana, though, so I completed the deal. Other than that unpleasantness, the transaction went fine.
