2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

2024 Lexus GX Reviews Summary

Redesigning a long-running vehicle requires a big swing, and after fourteen years since the second-generation model debuted, building the all-new 2024 GX was a tall order. Lexus’s engineers struck out to make this midsize SUV better in every way: better tech, a better engine, more capability, and more luxury. They succeeded.

Verdict: Comfortable but rugged, the thirsty, body-on-frame Lexus GX isn’t the right luxury SUV for every shopper. However, for those in the market for this particular blend of lavish capability, it may be the best option on the market.

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

2024 Lexus GX

8/10

The 2023 Genesis GV70 showcased a design that drew inspiration from its sedan counterpart, the G70, particularly above the belt-line. Its split-bar headlights and a strong chrome line that curved from behind the rear window visually connected the GV70 to the G70, hinting at a coupe-like SUV without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70's cabin was a testament to luxury, featuring top-notch materials and excellent fit and finish. The design was both contemporary and classic, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that rose organically from the dash. The GV70's dash included a full touchscreen, a rotary dial, and button controls, offering a tactile experience that was superior to touch capacitive controls found in some competitors.

In contrast, the 2024 Lexus GX embraced a more geometric styling, moving away from the softer, rounded corners of its predecessor. The new design featured a less pronounced spindle grille, standard triple-beam LED headlights, and a more aggressive front fascia. The GX's side profile appeared as if carved from a solid block, with minimal character lines and a low window beltline to enhance visibility. The interior of the GX was minimalist and sophisticated, with fewer physical buttons but retaining essential controls. The GX offered a spacious cabin for front and second-row passengers, though the third row was best suited for children. Cargo space was a highlight, with up to 90.5 cubic feet available in Overtrail models.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered two gas-powered engine options: a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The GV70 Electrified featured a 77.4-kWh battery powering two electric motors, generating a combined 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, with a Boost Mode increasing output to 483 horsepower for short bursts. The electric GV70 had a range of 236 miles and supported DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.

The 2024 Lexus GX transitioned from a V8 to a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, producing 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Built on the GA-F truck platform, the GX featured a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time four-wheel drive with a locking Torsen limited-slip center differential. The Overtrail trims added a locking rear differential and Lexus's Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) for enhanced off-road capability. The GX demonstrated impressive acceleration and braking performance, with a composed on-road demeanor despite its off-road prowess.

Front-seat comfort was easily adjustable, though rear-seat legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to slide their seats forward for more space.

The 2024 Lexus GX offered a more minimalist interior with essential physical controls retained. Front and second-row passengers enjoyed ample space, with 41.2 inches of legroom in the front and 36.7 inches in the second row. The third row was tight, suitable for children.
