2022 Kia Telluride Reviews Summary

Inside the halls of Kia’s North American headquarters in Irvine, California, the Kia Telluride is colloquially known as the “Selluride.” Indeed, since the midsize three-row crossover SUV debuted to widespread acclaim for the 2020 model year, Kia’s dealerships have been desperate to obtain as many examples as possible from the automaker’s West Point, Georgia, assembly plant. There is good reason for the model’s popularity, and the 2022 Kia Telluride adds more standard equipment to ensure that rivals know they must still contend with Kia in this segment.

2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews Summary

The definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must.

The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.

Look and feel

2022 Kia Telluride

9/10

2023 Genesis GV70

8/10

The 2022 Kia Telluride was a striking midsize SUV, boasting a muscular design with balanced proportions. Its trendy blacked-out wheels and trim added to its appeal, while minor updates like a new grille pattern and Kia's updated badges kept it fresh. The Telluride's interior was thoughtfully designed, with controls arranged logically. However, the glossy plastic in the lower cabin detracted from its otherwise upscale feel, especially in the SX Prestige trim with its Nappa leather and suede headliner. Despite this, the Telluride offered numerous standard features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and advanced driving aids.

The 2023 Genesis GV70, on the other hand, exuded luxury with its fantastic interior, top-notch materials, and excellent fit and finish. Its design was both contemporary and classic, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that rose organically from the dash. The GV70's dash featured a full touchscreen backed by a rotary dial and button controls, offering a tactile experience superior to touch capacitive controls. Available in gas-powered and electrified versions, the GV70 provided a range of trims and packages, each adding layers of luxury and performance features.

Performance

2022 Kia Telluride

8/10

2023 Genesis GV70

7/10

The 2022 Kia Telluride was powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine, producing 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. This engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, provided a satisfying driving experience. The Telluride's AWD system included a Lock mode for even power distribution, and its brake-based Torque Vectoring Cornering Control system enhanced handling. With a ground clearance of eight inches, it was capable on various terrains, though limited wheel articulation suggested sticking to less challenging paths. The Telluride offered a smooth ride, with driving modes like Eco, Comfort, Smart, and Sport, and achieved an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in combined driving. Its towing capacity was 5,000 pounds.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered a choice between a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both engines were mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with AWD. The GV70 Electrified featured dual electric motors producing 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, with a Boost Mode increasing output to 483 horsepower. It had a range of 236 miles and could fast charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The GV70's handling was well-rounded, offering a blend of comfort and sportiness, with the Electrified version leaning slightly more towards comfort.

Form and function

2023 Genesis GV70

6/10

The 2022 Kia Telluride balanced form and function with an upscale, organized interior. It featured thoughtful details like overhead air vents, rear smartphone storage pouches, and USB ports in the front seatbacks. The Telluride offered dual-zone automatic climate control for the front and single-zone for the rear. The SX Prestige package added premium Nappa leather upholstery and a simulated suede headliner. All three rows of seats were comfortable for adults, with a one-touch sliding and folding second-row seat mechanism for easy access to the third row. The Telluride provided 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 87 cubic feet with all seats folded.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 28.9 cubic feet with them in use. It came standard with a hands-free power liftgate. The GV70's interior featured large cupholders in the center console, a retractable tray, and a center console bin. Front-seat occupants found it easy to adjust to a comfortable position, though rear legroom was tighter, requiring front-row occupants to slide their seats forward. The rear bench reclined for added comfort.

The 2022 Kia Telluride came standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, including navigation and voice recognition. However, it lost wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, requiring a wired connection. Kia Connect offered a range of connected services, including emergency assistance, remote start, and smart speaker integration. The Telluride featured USB charging ports in all rows, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a Quiet Mode for playing music only through the front speakers. The SX trim included a Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, and a surround-view monitoring system.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It was easy to use, with large icons and logical menus. The GV70 included four USB ports, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a nine-speaker stereo system. Ambient lighting, a digital instrument panel, and the Genesis digital key were available features. The rotary dial for the infotainment system was located near the vehicle's rotary shifter, which could cause confusion.
